SC upholds Mir Quasem Ali's death penalty

Dhaka: Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today upheld death for Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War. He was acquitted in three charges, including one from a death penalty.

A five-member Appellate Division bench, headed by chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, gave the verdict.

op Jamaat-e-Islami financier Quasem, now 64, was awarded capital punishment by the tribunal on November 3, 2014. As many as 24 prosecution witnesses testified against Quasem.
