Bangladesh Railways (BR) is taking preparations to operate trains on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha to carry the Eid passengers on different routes, following health guidelines.
The train service was closed during Eid-ul-Fitr due to government restrictions. But this time considering the situation, BR is planning to run a limited number of passenger trains. However, authorities concerned will take at least another week to make the final decision.
Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said the train service is the most popular service during Eid holydays. But we will put emphasis on the situation and maintain of health guidelines. We are not making a final decision soon rather than we will take the decision based on the situation and government guidelines.
According to ministry sources, the Ministry of Railways and BR are planning to run at least 20 pair of trains. The final decision has depended on the maintain of health guidelines. If it is decided to run trains, hundred per cent of tickets will be sold online. In the meantime, the authorities will cancel the ticket reservation system in all quotas except VIP. Everyone will get equal opportunity to buy tickets online.
Advance tickets Eid tickets sales will begin between July 20 and 25, sources said.
