Holy Shab-e-Barat on March 29

The Muslims in Bangladesh will observe the holy Shab-e-Barat on the night March 29 (Monday) as the moon of month Sha'aban was not sighted in the country on Sunday evening.

The National Moon Sighting Committee today took the decision in a meeting.

Month Rajab completes its 30 days on Monday and the next month, Sha'aban, will be counted from Tuesday. Accordingly, Shab-e-Barat would be observed on March 29, the meeting said.

In Bangladesh, on the day after the night of Shab-e-Barat is a public holiday.

Muslims believe that on the night of Shab e-Barat, Allah writes the destinies of all men for the coming year by taking into account the deeds committed by them in the past.

Muslim devotees will offer special prayers, recite from the Holy Qur'an and perform other religious rituals throughout the night of Shab e-Barat, hoping to receive divine blessings for the wellbeing of mankind.
