MPO teachers start hunger strike

Hundreds of MPO enrolled teachers and officials of different non-governmental primary schools have started hunger strike on demand of nationalising their educational institutions.   

They are staging the fast unto death demonstration under the banner of “Nationalising Non-governmental Education Liaison Forum” on the central Press Club premises in the capital since Monday morning.

Earlier, the teachers started a sit-in demonstration on January 10 and declared the hunger strike programme as the authorities did not response to their demand by Sunday.  

Motiur Rahman, Joint convener of the forum, said they will continue the demonstration until the government meets their demands.

Meanwhile, teachers of ebtedayee madrasas, the primary level educational institutions under madrasa board, continuing their fast unto death programme for the seventh consecutive day in front of the capital's National Press Club, demanding nationalisation of all the registered madrasas.

Secretary General of “Bangladesh Swatantra Ebtedai Madrasa Shikkhak Samity” Qazi Mokhlesur Rahman said: "We will continue our hunger strike until our demand is met.”

Agitating teachers said, about 12 teachers become sick due to the stand on. So far, at least 177 teachers of ebtedayee madrasas fell sick.
