Some 4 lakh people were evacuated and shifted to cyclone shelters till Friday noon to minimize losses and damages from the cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ which hit India’s Odisha in the morning.
Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Shah Kamal come up with the disclosure in a briefing on the latest condition and preparation on ‘Fani’ at the Secretariat on Friday.
He said, “A total of 4 lakh 4 thousand and 250 people were evacuated and shifted to cyclone shelters from coastal areas from Friday morning to till 12:30pm.”
“We are aiming to take 21 lakh to 25 lakh people to cyclone centres by the evening. We have 4,071 cyclone centres,” he added.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, Dr Enamur Rahman, President of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Disaster Management and Relief Ministry ABM Tajul Islam, Principal secretary to the Prime minister Nojibur Rahman, Secretary Abdul Malek, Health Department Secretary Asadul Islam were present at the briefing.-Risingbd.com
