A tribunal in Dhaka today sentenced eight-year imprisonment to former officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain in a case filed under Digital Security Act for recording and circulating a video clip of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain of the Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka announced the judgment in presence of lone accused Moazzem.

On July 17, the tribunal framed charges against Moazzem Hossain in the case.

Earlier on May 27, a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against Moazzem Hossain on charges of recording rape victim Sonagazi madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi and releasing the video on social media.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order after Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a report confirming Moazzem’s offense.

Investigation officer and PBI senior ASP Rima Sultana filed the report at Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal. She said: "We have found the allegations brought against the police official true."

On April 15, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed the case with Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal under section 26, 29 and 31 of Digital Security Act (DSA).

AS per the case statement, the former Sonagazi OC summoned Nusrat as she filed a case against Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa principal Sirajuddoula for sexual harassment.

The police official quizzed her about the incident and recorded the whole incident in the absence of any lawyer or female cop. Moazzem later posted the video on different social media sites.

On April 6, Nusrat was set on fire when she went to the madrasa to appear in Alim examination and succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.

Nusrat had accused Sirajuddoula of harassing her sexually on March 27.
