The local administration has imposed a lockdown in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus.
The upazila administration made the announcement on Thursday.
UNO M Asaduzzaman in an emergency press conference in the afternoon informed the matter.
He said and public transport and all shops, except medicine and raw material shops and groceries, will remain shut down during the lockdown.
According to Madaripur Civil Surgeon office, some 212 people have been asked to go for home quarantine while two were kept in isolation in Dhaka.
Health Department sources said, a 100-bed unit in the new building of Madaripur Sadar Hospital has been kept ready for coronavirus patients.
