A fire broke out at the isolation ward of United Hospital at Gulshan in Dhaka on Wednesday night, leaving five coronavirus infected patients dead.
The fire originated at about 9:55pm after an air-conditioner on the ground floor exploded.
Among the deceased, four were male and one female coronavirus infected patients who were undergoing treatment at the isolation ward which was covered by a large tent. All the patients were under life support.
Hospital sources said the patients died of burn injuries.
The government has decided not to extend the ongoing general holidays declared to prevent the transmission of deadly coronavirus.
